Eulogy

Our beloved girl Josie passed away peacefully in our arms last Monday evening and twodogs are finally reunited. Giving a nod to her prize-fighting lineage and due, largely, to the mental instability that she enjoyed most of her life, the Hoser terrorized one Tiny Frog, two neighbors, a pug, and a Travis County Deputy before climbing calmly into the van and taking a nap. We buried her “way down back” at Jason & Cat’s farm with a planting of Texas Sage in her honor. The torrential rains of the past several days tell us that Mother Earth and Father Sky mourn sweet Josie’s passing along with us, but as the vegetables grow and the sage blooms, we are comforted by nature’s cycles. We imagine that when she and Eli take a break from playing “stick,” she is glad to finally be free of the fears and injuries that plagued her. Our Josie, Josephina, JoseRose, Hosie, Hoser, Hoses, Hosehead, Little Round Head, we will love you and miss you always.

Recently overheard...

Pookie, in the morning while I am dressing Bitty: "Huh. Why's his pee-pee sticking up like that?"

Bitty, while roaming through the kitchen: "I ehfunt. I mean ehfunt. Grrrrrr!" This is followed by him headbutting me, a dog, the wall... whatever's handy.

Beanie, watching traffic as we drive home: "That is just what I want. I want a hiccup like Uncle Brian's an' I can ride in the back an' I won't haf to buckle!"

This morning, on the way to Cat's house, upon noticing that a hole in the road, made during water line repair work, had been filled:

Beanie: "Is that hole gone Mom? Did that hole go to its hole home? It sure did, it just got up an' walked away!"
Pookie: "Real holes don't have legs, silly! Only tv holes have legs and can walk!"

Happy Father's Day!

We celebrated Father's Day yesterday by going to see The Fantastic Four. Yup, that's what I said, all five of us. Wild and wacky, eh? The kids were so unbelievably good! The girls were really into the movie and Bitty, well, he was into the popcorn. He isn't even heavy enough to hold the seat down! About twenty minutes before it ended, he looked at me and said, "Go home now." When that didn't work, he started saying, "Go Cat's house. Tomorrow?" But he literally didn't move the whole time! Near the end of the movie, after the big climactic scene, it gets really quiet. The only sound in the whole theater was Pookie saying, "Stra-a-ange."

Recently overheard at the dinner table:
Beanie: "Egan, let's talk. Pocohontas got shot!"
