Happy Birthday Uncle Brian!

Just for fun, on this very auspicious day (30!!), let's review some photos from years past.

Blake, Brian and me in the alley off 6th Street, Mardi Gras 2000. How is it that no one went to jail that night? Oh, that's right, I must have driven. :-)

This picture was taken about five minutes after Brian said, "Hey. I'll be right back."
(October 2001. This was the party that led to Tracy's illness a week later, aka rotten bitter beer belly, and the fight at the Party Barn over the returned keg.)

X-Rated

Last weekend Uncle Brian came down for a visit. He brought Cheryl, his new girlfriend, to meet us. The whole idea of Uncle Brian having a girlfriend has taken some adjusting on Pook’s part. For the past couple weeks, every time I’ve mentioned him, she has burst into tears and said, “I liked it when he din’t have a girlfriend!” I imagine Abigail feels the same way!

Saturday, we were on our way to meet Brian and Cheryl at the house that we are buying. Beanie asked me if they had gotten married yet and I said no. She then explained to Pookie that “if he marries her, we will have another aunt! That’s another person to buy us presents and love us!” Pook decided to count how many aunts they have. It went something like this. “One is Aunt Kim, two is Gramma, three is Grampa, four is Aunt Bet, five is Uncle Brian, six is Belinda, seven is Princess Jackie, eight is Aunt Robynn, nine and ten is Big Momma and Granna…” She finally ended up with, “and Aunt ‘Marshall’ makes fourteen! Momma! We are so lucky, we have fourteen people who love us!” It took me a minute to figure out who Aunt Marshall was.

We got to the house first and were talking about plans for the day while I helped the kids get out of the vancar. Beanie wanted to know if Brian and Marshall, I mean Cheryl, were going with us to the park after lunch. I told her that they might, but that I didn’t know what other plans they had. She said, “Maybe they have plans for ‘sahggy’.” “What?” “Maybe they are planning to have sahggy!” This was followed by lots of giggling from both girls. “What?” “You know, sahggy.” “What is sahggy?” “Sahggy…sacky? Saxy!” (More giggling.) “Oh. What is saxy?” “When you take off all your clothes and lay on the bed and kiss each other!” (OH MY GOD!) Both girls dissolved into fits of giggles then. Finally Pook caught her breath and said, “Beanie, you are too crazy! Brian and Marshall don’t do that!”

Lunch time!

Bitty helped me make lunch today. When we were finished, I asked him to tell the girls that it was time to eat. He walked into the living room and shouted in their general direction, "Lunch is ready, pigs!"

Halloween Plans

Today the girls helped Bitty dress up in several layers of dresses and scarves, complete with a scarf-covered Easter hat. He came to show me his "fancy" clothes and said, "Momma, when is it gonna be Halloween?" I explained that it was several months away. Then he said, "I wan' wear a dress for Halloween. I wan' be 'fancy guy'!"

Black Magic

On the way home today, as we passed a gated condo development on 620, Beanie said, "I told Miss Jenny about that magic gate." (It's an automatic gate and she comments on it frequently.) I said, "You love that gate, don't you?" And she replied, vehemently, "I do not like that gate Mommy. It is haunted!"

Planning Ahead

Beanie: "When I am all grown up, when all the family is grown up, can we get spacesuits and go in outer space?"
Pookie: "When I grow up, I’m gonna work for the City of Lakeway!"
Beanie (tearing up, this is a big concern for her): "Well if you work there then how will you get to see your mommy or your daddy or your brother or your sister?"
Pookie: "I will still live with them!"

Lights On!

Today was Lakeway's annual holiday lighting event. This year we installed a walkable trail of lights in an open area behind City Hall. It is beautiful! in spite of the cold (it was REALLY cold), the kids enjoyed visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Claus and Rudolph. We are ready for snow now!
