FINALLY!

Last year in August, Beanie decided to cut her hair short. It was an adorable cut, and at the time I encouraged Pook to do the same. In the beginning she said she wanted to cut it, but then when the time came she cried and cried...so she only ended up with a trim. She did tell us that she would get her hair cut short "when I am six years old." So...I've been reminding her of that and trying to convince her for a couple months. Her hair was down to her waist, long and stringy just like mine when I was a kid! Finally, we made a deal. I told her that if she would get it cut to her shoulders, we could send it to Locks of Love, I would buy her new headbands and bows, and I would let her take swimming lessons this summer. Et voila!

Porch Painting

Aunt Kim sent Bitty some sidewalk paint with brushes and some sidewalk chalk for his birthday, and the kids had a great time decorating the deck this afternoon!

Typical Day

The kids got to stay home with Daddy on his day off today. Mid-afternoon, I called home to see how they were.

"What are you up to?"

"Me an' the Pook are watching a Doctor Who marathon, the Beaner is walking around naked inside a pillowcase, and Bitty is rearranging the magnets on the fridge. Oh, now he's in the pillowcase!"

Spiderific!

For a couple weeks now, we have been watching this spider. She started out on the north side of our deck, but then moved to the shadier south side. Beanie identified her as a "crab" spider, which makes sense because she has a crab-like body. In fact, she is a spiny orb weaver. The crab shaped part seems to sit up on top of her body, and appears to be hard and shell-like. It is yellow on one side and white on the other, and has spots. Beanie is fascinated by her and checks every day to make sure that she's caught some food, and to see if she can find an egg sack.

Homegrown Superhero

Bitty has developed a slight fascination with Power Rangers. Lately he's been asking for a "powranger suit" and Tracy found him one on Ebay. His favorite part is the cape. He likes to climb up on the furniture and jump down to make it "fly." He also likes to run around the house yelling, "Powranger to the save!"

Summer Triptych

Pre-K Graduation

Miss Julie's celebrated their first Pre-K graduation on May 30. The Bean was all smiles, mostly because she got to wear her "graduation nightgown" and eat cake! Best of all, she got to sit next to Scott. She and Scott both agree that they are going to marry each other. I asked her what will happen if she grows up and doesn't know him anymore when she's ready to get married. She said, "I will find him wherever he is. I will find him and marry him!"
