Jazzy Girl

Pookie had her annual class performance tonight. The first grade put on a musical program called All That Jazz, featuring music written and/or performed by legendary African-Americans. The program was quite impressive! I was really pleased with the whole concept: the kids learned about an original American art form, African-American history, and music history all in one project. Kudos to the 1st grade teachers and music teachers at Patton Elementary!

Pook's class sang and danced to "Proud Mary" and Pook even had a speaking part. She stood up in front of the packed cafetorium and declared, "Tina Turner power sang the rock and roll standard, 'Proud Mary!'"

Special thanks to Aunt Kim for joining us, and especially to Gramma and Grampa for driving all the way down to watch Pook. Here she is, in costume, with her friend Emme and the Bean.
